Employee Spotlight: Rob Bonnstetter

Rob Bonnstetter has been an integral part of RTL Equipment for nearly 25 years, working in sales. He's earned our trust and the trust of our customers through his perseverance, dependability, and accessibility. Anyone who's had the pleasure of working with Rob has witnessed his professionalism and commitment to being incredibly knowledgeable about our construction machinery firsthand. We thought it was time to put the spotlight on him this time (even though he didn't want it) and let those who aren't familiar with Rob learn a little more about what makes him tick.

What's been the most rewarding part of being involved with RTL Equipment?

I've been around the construction business in some capacity for most of my life and enjoy the whole process of building something from the ground up. I like being able to help our customers find the right equipment for them in order to complete their projects the best way possible, so they can be as profitable as possible.

Five to ten years down the line, where do you see the business?  

I see RTL Equipment continuing to be the premier construction equipment dealership in the area and growing steadily each year.

How would you say RTL stands out among competitors?  

We pride ourselves in being the experts for our customers when it comes to their construction machinery needs. We don't want them to end up with the wrong piece of equipment ever, so we take the extra steps to look at the big picture as well as the small details before a sale is complete.

To what do you attribute your success both as an individual and as a business?

My "never give up" attitude. If there's a will, there's a way.

If there's someone reading this right now and hoping to work for RTL in the future, what advice would you give?

Work hard, be available all hours, and always answer your phone! Our customers are important and that means sometimes needing to be available at odd hours.  

Have you made any sacrifices in order to be more successful in business?  

I've always tried to take care of my customers' needs whenever they needed (i.e. after hours, on weekends, etc.). That's a decision I made early on in my career at RTL Equipment and one I'm glad I made, because it's continued to serve our customers well.

What's your greatest motivation at RTL?    

My greatest motivation is making and keeping a customer.

How do you define success?    

Happiness.

What's your favorite sports team and who's your favorite player of all time?  

The Vikings and Larry Csonka.

If you could trade places with one person for a day, who would it be?    

An F-15 fighter pilot.

Describe what you were like at the age of 10.    

I was very shy and quiet.
The desert island question: if you were stranded on a desert island, what three items would you hope to have with you?    

My wife, a fishing pole, and a lighter...so my wife can cook the fish!

What's your personal motto or favorite quote?    

I have many-just ask my family! "Adapt, improvise, and overcome." "You can sleep when you die." "Daylight's wasting!"

Is there something about you that your co-workers might be surprised to know?    

Nope! They know it all-the good, the bad, the ugly!
